    is a Sophomore in the English for New Media program. She is an avid word collector from Mitchell, SD. Her work often reflect her views on reality and pushing against the norm. "Pink Nail Polish" was a prose piece recounting the stereotypes she grew up with as a young girl and hopes that they will change for future generations.

    is from Theif River Falls, MN, majoring in Computer Information Systems. The story "Kitten" is about the zodiac animals not accepting the cat into their family. It takes one voice to stand up to others and make a change. 

    Hannah Kramer

    is studying Elementary Education. She is from Sioux Falls, SD, but lives on campus in Madison. "Life is Worth Living" was inspired by her own struggle with depression and suicide, along with the stories of other survivors. Life truly is worth living.

    Samantha Algood

    grew up in Volga, SD. I have loving parents, Dale and Karen Algood. As for the one sibling in my life, he's alright. My brother Nathaniel goes to Southeast Tech. Both of us are kind of following in our parent’s footsteps. My brother is planning to be a mechanic, just like my day. As for me, well I'm majoring in English Education to become a teacher, just like my mom. After having taught high school for a while, I am planning on getting my Master’s degree in order to teach at the college level.

    Jamie Pearson

    is a native of San Diego, CA, and is majoring in Cyber Operations. Jamie feels blessed to have the ability to capture unique images with her keen eyes. When she is granted a few moments of free time, Jmaie enjoys turning her images into digital artworks and writing poetry. 

    Rick Janssen

    graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art from DSU. Now retired, he ejoys conceiving free verse poetry. His poetry has been published in a number of past issues of New Tricks. 

    Elizabeth Klett

    is an English for New Media major from Danville, IL, the hometown of Dick Van Dyke. While both of Liz's works are very sad, she is a very upbeat person. Her most moving poetry can be found only in her personal journal. 

    Tori Martin

    is from St. Louis, MO and studies in English for New Media. She writes poetry to help her express her emotions in a way that others can understand. 

    Kendra Cary

    is an English for New Media major from Sioux Falls, SD. She influences readers' emotions through writing. 

    Hannah Knock

    is majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Photography. Her hometown is Willow Lake, SD. "I'd Be a Tree" is a comparison of her emotions and that of the people around her. While others can be adventurous and wild, she is perfectly comfortable and happy where she is. 

    Casualene Meyer

    is from Renton, WA. She is adjunct instructor of English at Dakota State. Her poem, "Mock Apple Pie", was inspired by human weakness and a recipe on a box of crackers she saw as a child.

    Emily Schroeder

    was born and raised in Watertown, SD. She will be graduating in May with a Bachelor's degree in Digital Arts and Design and a minor in Digital Photography. Emily captured "Winter Magic" while exploring Lake Herman State Park. 

    April Farmer

    is a Junior in Computer Graphics from Letcher, SD. Her drawing, "Rooster", is based off the symbols in the book "House Made of Dawn". 

    Lee Kampshoff

    grew up in Salem, SD, where she first picked up creating digital art. After high school, Lee decided to attend DSU to pursue a career in Computer Graphics. "Worried" and "Disappointed" were created as a part of his 2017 Winter Collection, a small collection of his minimalist drawings inspired by a list of words chosen by his friends. 

    Thomas Jones

    has been teaching photography, computer graphics and K-12 art methods since being hired at DSU in 2000. He created the Photography Study Tour course in which students travel throughout the U.K. and Paris, France learning about photography, creating photography portfolios for future employment and experiencing cultural exhibitions. Tom continually researches trends and incorporates them into his courses. He can often be seen with students taking photos at various DSU events encouraging and challenging the students to think beyond classroom assignments.

    Angela Behrends

    is a visual artist who teaches foundation art and design at DSU. She welcomes opportunities to collaborate whenever they promise joyful expression for the participants. Her mixed-media sculptures are part of the permanent collections at the Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center and the Rapid City Arts Council at the Dahl Arts Center.

    Joeseph Swanson

    is a Senior from Vermillion, SD, majoring in Computer Game Design. He aspires to work as a concept artist for a game studio where he can create characters and worlds that can be experienced by different types of players. 

    Joe Zhe Ren

    is a Digital Arts and Design professor. He was born in Tianjin, China. For the past few years, he has exhibited his art work nationally and internationally. 

    Obatola Layiwola

    is a Junior from Nigeria studying Graphic Design. His works reveal compelling stories through photo manipulation, digital painting, and photography.
